We are a 4th generation beekeeping family dedicated to bringing you the best in honeybee queen genetics.
We have currently switched to letting the girls draw whatever comb they wish within the broodnest.  This is called natural cell, which we feel will allow our bees to increase their ability to fight varroa mites, providing for healthier hives and reduced cost for miticides. We do not use either Apistan or Checkmite in any of our hives.   We use MiteAway II for Spring and Fall treatments for varroa and tracheal mite control.  Due to lower mite counts, we did not treat for varroa mites in the Spring of 2007 or the Fall of 2007.  Septemeber lab test conducted by Beltsville Bee Lab also showed no trace of tracheal mites.  Based on this data, treatments were not needed. We did however treat for nosema, which seems to be on the rise in this area.

 

We have also recently discovered that Mann Lake PF120 frames are also smallcell, measuring in at 4.95mm. This is a quick and cheap way to get your LC (largecell) bees to SC (smallcell) size.
